HERSHEY STORY MUSEUM
Hershey Story Museum, Hershey, PA: The Faux Pro was engaged by artist William Cochran to provide a painterly finish for Cochran's new murals, for which he was commissioned by the new Hershey Story Museum in Hershey, PA. The three walls in the grand foyer are each 28' tall by 18' wide. With my crew and the close direction of Mr. Cochran, and knowledge provided by the renowned faux painter Pierre Finkelstein and by Golden Artist Colors, we built up a sky painting in layers that will become part of Mr. Cochran's mural "Community Builder" (to be installed summer/fall 2009).
It is a huge honor to be asked by Mr. Cochran, as he is one of the nation's best muralists. We arrived on site in Hershey, PA December 18, 2009 and finished on December 22, 2009.
Step 1: Building the staging to get us up to work on these 28' tall walls. |
Step 2: After receiving direction on the color gradation, it was time to mix the buckets of color. | Step 3: Crewmember Marlow DeMars starts the first wall. | Step 4: Bernadette Forese (The Faux Pro) and crewmember Marlow DeMars continue working on the third wall. |
Step 5: The crew works the 3rd wall while an audience looks on.
| Step 6: Our smallest fan watches us work. |
Step 7: The work continues on the 3rd wall. Up and down the staging we go!
| Step 8: Close to the bottom of the 3rd wall. |
Step 9: Really close to the bottom of the 3rd wall. | Step 10: Marlow DeMars (left) and Bernadette Forese (right, The Faux Pro) put the finishing touches on the walls using the lift.
| Step 11: Finessing with an audience looking on.
| Step 12: A close-up of what one section of the wall looks like. This is a "painterly" sky color gradation, as per Mr. William Cochran's direction. |
